Represent the interests of TRES by attending The PTA Council of Howard County monthly meetings. Communicate HCPSS county-wide issues back to TRES community |

Food, Clothing, and Book drives. Communicate the needs of our sibling school at BWES to TRES community for donation drives |
Fundraising Chair |
Develop and implement plans for fundraising events so that the PTA can hold events and support staff at TRES |
Health and Wellness Chair |
Support student health by running "Walking Wednesdays" activity. Students win prizes by walking laps during recess. |
Reflections Art Contest Chair |
Promote student artworks by running this national art competition at TRES. After judging, winning artworks are sent to the County-wide competition in December |
Membership Chair |
Communicates and promotes participation in PTA and gives updates to executive committee. Handles the logistics of memberships through MemberHub. Helps run Back to School Night and Open House. |
Hospitality Chair |
Provide hospitality for guests and volunteers during major school events including Back to School Night, Veterans Day, Field Day, and Simulated Congressional Hearing (5th grade) |
Family Fall Dance Chair (September) |
Kick-off event at the beginning of the year filled with music, dancing, and activities. Food trucks are often present for snacks. |
Trunk or Treat Chair (October) |
This is a large school event providing a safe central source for trick or treating. Students and their families visit decorated vehicles for candy and vote for their favorites. |
Bingo Night Chair (February) |
B-I-N-G....Oh what's the point. Everybody knows what Bingo is. A popular event with prizes for the kids |
Retriever Rally Co-Chair(May) |
The Retriever Rally is an annual end-of-year May Carnival tradition at TRES. The two Chairs plan and organize this event. This is one of the bigger events open to our school-wide community and often includes pursuing sponsorship. |

President |
The President is responsible for the functioning of the whole PTA. Serving as an ex officio member of all committees, the President provides suggestions, decisions, and handles school-wide and interpersonal issues. The President is expected to speak for the PTA or designate others to communicate events, issues, and needs at TRES. The President also promotes and coordinates the work of the Officers and Committees. The President is also expected to review and initial bank statements monthly. |

President Elect |
The President-Elect works with the President and learns about the job in order to prepare the PTA for a smooth transition the following year. The President-Elect works as an aide to the President and helps to coordinate the work of the officers and committees. |

Vice President - School Programming |
The VP of School Programming acts as an aide to the President and focuses on supporting the chairs of all school activities run by the PTA. This includes Membership/Student Directory, Spirit Wear, Yearbook, Health and Wellness, Staff Appreciation. The VP is expected to attend most PTA social events and be available for questions during setup and breakdown. The VP attends monthly meetings, answers questions directed to the PTA, and helps to communicate PTA events through the Retriever Report, MemberHub, and by maintaining the PTA bulletin board at school. |

Secretary |
The PTA Secretary keeps the record of the PTA. The Secretary is responsible for keeping a record of meeting minutes and responds to the PTA email whenever possible, alerting the PTA Executive Committee about any high priority emails. The Secretary also coordinates with all PTA positions to publish the Retriever Report bi-monthly. |

PTACHC Representative |
PTACHC delegates attend the monthly meetings held by the collective PTAs of Howard County, in which issues concerning the wider school community and important HCPSS updates are discussed. PTACHC delegates are responsible for communicating and representing the wants, needs, and positions of TRES PTA and then reporting back notable developments to TRES. The TRES PTACHC delegate can also serve on committees at PTACHC. |

Community Outreach Chair |
The Community Outreach Chair develops opportunities for the TRES community to learn about and give back to the needs of Howard County. The Chair organizes various food and clothing drives and is responsible for the logistics of collecting materials and delivering them to the appropriate places. The Chair works with our sibling school at Bryant Woods Elementary to communicate their needs to our community. The Chair has also worked with Boys Scouts for food drives and Girl Scouts for book drives. Community Outreach also runs the annual holiday Giving Tree. |

Fundraising Chair |
Fundraising provides the majority of the PTA’s budget and keeps the entire engine running. The Chair seeks out funding sources within the local community. Many of the PTA’s larger events also raise funds or donations so the Chair may be asked to help. Most fundraising events can typically be scheduled at the beginning of the year, so it is important to reconcile PTA, school, and fundraising calendars. Sample fundraisers include Restaurants, Main Event, Taharka Ice Cream, and running Square One Art and may also include running a direct donation drive. There is also a need to advertise and collect donated funds. |

Health and Wellness Chair |
Health and Wellness is mainly expressed at TRES through Walking Wednesdays, in which students are encouraged to participate in walking laps during recess to earn prizes. The Chair is responsible for volunteer coordination, scheduling logistics, materials, and record-keeping relating to laps and prizes. A complete Walking Wednesday event typically takes 3.5 hours. |

Staff Appreciation Co-chair |
The Chair makes sure that our teachers and staff feel appreciated by planning snacks and other reminders that they are appreciated. Staff Appreciation also handles the planning and execution of bigger events during the holiday season and at the end of the year. |

Spirit Wear/Field Day Shirt |
The Chair is responsible for handling Spirit Wear orders through the website. The Chair also collects Field Day Shirt orders and makes sure they are delivered in a timely manner. |

Reflections Co-Chair |
Reflections runs the national Reflections art competition at TRES. The Chair collects the artwork, anonymizes them, and recruits judges. The Chair then submits the winning works to the county for the next stage of the competition. The time commitment is approximately 5 hours a week between Chair and volunteers until the school-level competition ends in December. |

Membership |
Membership is responsible for communicating and promoting participation in TRES PTA and giving periodic updates to the PTA executive committee. This person handles the logistics and support for people joining the PTA through the Givebacks website. The responsibilities are mainly at the beginning of the year, where the chair is expected to attend and help run Back to School night and Open House. Membership drives community and inclusivity at TRES by providing a way for parents and staff to keep up to date about activities, events. |

The 5th Grade Activities Chair coordinates the larger school activities for 5th Grade events. The Chair advertises, recruits volunteers, and handles the logistics of these events. |

Hospitality Chair |
The Chair is the go-to person for hospitality at our school, including hosting guests for Veterans Day and volunteers for Field Day and the Simulated Congressional Hearing. Hospitality provides snacks and water and sometimes organizes and plans whole lunches. The Chair is responsible for advertising, ordering food/materials, recruiting volunteers, and planning the logistics of specific events. |

Culture Night Chair |
Culture Night is an event that celebrates the diverse backgrounds and cultures represented at TRES and in our community. The Chair recruits community volunteers from businesses, families, and community organizations that want to showcase a performance, provide food/drink, or set up an activity station. The Chair is also responsible for setting up the event space, including overseeing materials, equipment, and hosting. Past Chairs have typically spent an hour a week beginning in the fall but the time commitment does increase considerably nearer the event. |

Family Fall Dance Chair |
The Fall Dance is a casual Fall festival and the PTA’s first event of the year that reintroduces the community to each other. In addition to music and dance, there are often activities (like a photo booth) and food trucks that people can enjoy while they hang out together. The Chair recruits volunteers, arranges activities, and handles the logistics of equipment/personnel necessary to host a dance. Leading up to the event, the Chair typically spends a few hours each week planning and organizing this activity, more during the week of the event. Last year, this event was combined with Dr. Tresler’s back-to-school picnic. |

Retriever Run Co-Chair |
The Retriever Run is our school version of a turkey-trot. There is both a shortm2k and longer 5k run. Chairs recruit volunteers, seek sponsorship, advertise, and handle the logistics of race day including an outside web company specializing in race events. There is also music and food trucks. |

Financial Literacy Night |
Financial Literacy Night introduces older students to the wonders of responsible budgeting. This event is a great introduction to money and economics that kids can beginning applying to their life right away.
